Either she thought something else as antibiotics or the doctor is not legit. Likely to be the previous. Understandable mistake if she's not a bio major.
The cold is caused by viruses... And saying "you have a virus" is extremely vague because there are a TON of different viruses that cause different symptoms and illnesses.
Whatever the girl or doctor said is just full of fail...
Not to mention the glaring mistake here, which is the fact that antibiotics do nothing for viral infections. They are only effective against bacteria, and doctors would only prescribe them for a bacterial infection.
Actually no they don't. Antibiotic resistance is a HUGE problem. WIthout antibiotics we would be screwed, but resistance is developing faster than we come up with new ones. Doctors nowadays are WELL aware of the issue, and don't prescribe antibiotics unless absolutely necessary, and they make sure to explain to patients that they must take the whole course of antibiotics, even if they feel better.

ReplyDeleteI really think that the girl was trying to exaggerate about how sick she was, and just didn't know what she was talking about.

DeleteI doubt a doctor proscribed an antibiotic for a viral infection. Just sounds like a dummy talking to me.

DeleteWell in some cases doctors do prescribe antibiotics during a viral infection because the person gets more susceptible to certain bacterial infections.
