  2. Next time, don't stay up all night.

  3. You failed the exam because you stayed up all night.

  4. I have a rule. 8 hours sleep the night before an exam, no exceptions, and no studying for the 3 hours before the exam.

    1. ^ I'm not OP but if I did that every single time, I'd go into a lot of exams without having studied part of the material. I'm pretty sure that would have been detrimental to my performance rather than helpful.

But if you're just staying up to review stuff you've already studied, then yeah, you should just go to sleep.

    2. 4 +1, I do the same thing. 4.a then you should start studying earlier, problem solved

    3. I agree with 4.a.
I know a lot of people would never understand this because it's not their temperament, but some people just CANNOT start studying early. I'm one of them. We work our best and are most productive at the last moment, and before that the seriousness just doesn't set in.
Trust us, we want to change and be like others - organized, well planned... but we just can't do it. It's frustrating and hard, but it's how we function in our daily lives. Not suited for university, I know. But maybe once someone can at least try to realize that this system of testing is not suited for everyone on this earth..

    4. I agree with 4a... I'm a 90s student. Until I actually sleep. That's when I fail. Not proud of this at all.

    5. @4c - can't or won't?

    6. 4a here, my average is in the 90s too. 4c explained it perfectly.

I actually do try to study early and I divide the material up so I study some of it per day. But I usually end up going slower than I expected, which leaves me with a lot of material to study at the end. On the last day, the stress of the last minute situation gets me to study quicker.

    1. A lot of people perform best under pressure. It's not laziness. It's just how their brains work.

  6. Using the argument 'Why not just study earlier' is comparable to 'Study everything you learn immediately prior to learning it, and treat the exam like a normal day without special preparation.'

  7. the testing system rewards short term memory

you'd be wise to study before the exam, but make sure you know the material well enough already that you're not solely relying on the all-nighter to make or break your performance

  8. Notice the wrong use of the conjunction «but».
